This week there was a big blackout on Facebook/Instagram and it seems that the world fell apart… but there is an important lesson that we need to take away from this event, and a couple action steps that we all NEED to take. Because, let's be real – there will be another Facebook blackout… and there will be days/times when the internet is glitchy or out completely… and you need to position your business to succeed despite internet and social media outages.
The Notes
- You NEED an email list! Social media is a borrowed platform and you need an asset that you own and control that you can rely on if social media fails you.
- On the days when Facebook is glitchy: walk away! Don't just hit refresh! Walk away and work on something else – or just spend some time playing with your kids. 24-hours will not kill your business. Let the developers fix the issues and spend your time differently.
- Also, consider creating a list of things you can work on without the internet.
MailChimp – if you need a free email provider, MailChimp is a great free option for start-ups and you can collect your list there. NOTE: I do recommend backing-up that list onto the cloud or Google Drive – so that you have it IF MailChimp is glitchy/down!
FG Funnels is the email provider I am using now. It is an all-in-one solution and is NOT free. It allows you to build landing pages, host courses, and of course email lists… but, I did start with MailChimp. So, if you are a beginner start there, and when you're ready for a more robust option, then definitely check out FG Funnels!
